Day Trips and Excursions Rail Tour

Be transported to the Maui of yesteryear on the Lahaina Kaanapali Railroad! Aboard one of the last remaining sugar-cane trains in Hawaii, you'll ride between historic Lahaina town and the resorts of Kaanapali.

With a blast of its steam whistle, the locomotive chugs along at a leisurely pace on this scenic train tour. During your train ride, you will cross a curved wooden trestle for panoramic views of neighboring islands and the West Maui Mountains.

During your journey, a narrator will entertain you Hawaiian-style and point out sites of interest along the way. From December to April, it is a common to spot humpback whales frolicking in the warm Pacific waters.

For more than 100 years, Hawaii's sugar trains hauled sugar cane to the mills, and transported workers between their homes and the cane fields. Steam locomotives became a picturesque part of the Hawaiian landscape, sounding their haunting whistles as they rounded a mountain curve and plowing along narrow-gauge tracks between fields of sugar cane.

Although the sugar-cane fields are now gone, the Lahaina Kaanapali Railroad keeps on rolling, preserving Maui's rich sugar-cane heritage.

Day Trips and Excursions Rail Tour Travel to Nuremburg by train on a full-day trip to one of Germany's most beautiful cities. Enjoy a fully-guided visit of the city, as well as an optional visit to the Documentation Center on this rail tour from Munich. Nuremberg is a beautiful, old city with a vibrant history. This was where the Third Reich strutted in all of its pomp against an epic backdrop of grandiose marching grounds. It was also where an international war crimes tribunal later held that same Nazi leadership to account amidst the rubble of the defeated city.

The locations of the iconic scenes captured in films such as Triumph of the Will - the rally grounds where Hitler addressed his multitudes, the astonishing Congress Hall, the entire region designed as a "new Rome" by the architect Albert Speer - are still largely intact. We'll take you there and tell you the story.

You'll also see the other Nuremberg that locals are rightly proud of. The medieval fortifications of the striking old town, Gothic churches, colorful market places and hilltop castle of the old imperial city are as awe-inspiring today as ever.

Nuremberg hosted the Imperial Diet (or parliament) of the Holy Roman Empire and was nominated an Imperial Free City by the Emperor Frederick II. It was a center of cultural vitality at the center of major imperial trade routes. It played a key role in the Reformation, and in the printing and scientific revolutions that shaped the modern world. It was home to one of Germany's oldest Jewish communities.

The old rally grounds today host a major Documentation Center that maps all of this painful history in detailed clarity and represents evidence of Nuremberg's determination to come to terms with its past.

Our expert English-speaking guide will accompany you on the pleasant 1.5 hour train journey from Munich and back again, giving you a comprehensive tour through this unique city.

Day Trips and Excursions Rail Tour Escape to Ostia Antica and see why experts are calling it "The Better Pompeii". It is just a step away from Rome and you'll travel in a personalized small group with maximum 25 people! The perfect half day trip from Rome for those seeking to learn more about ancient Roman ruins but do not have time to travel to Pompeii.

The beautifully preserved ruins of Ancient Ostia were founded in the 4th century BC and were once inhabited by over 100,000 people. Ancient Ostia is commonly referred to as "The Better Pompeii" due to the astonishing, highly-preserved condition of its buildings. Structures include taverns, baths, apartments, groceries and theatres - and their intact state so strikingly exceeds that of the Roman Forum, Imperial Forum and Pompeii, that it seems a misnomer to call them 'ruins'.

Walk the main street, the Decumanus Maximus, while your tour guide brings the stones around you to life. The Roman statues that line the walkways are in such perfect condition you'll feel as though you are walking amongst the ancient Romans themselves! You'll even be enticed to take a dip in the Baths of Neptune, which are crowned by a impressively intact mosaic of the sea god being drawn by a four horse chariot. And if you are a theatre fan, you'll enjoy Ancient Ostia's amphitheatre ' whose structure is still so stable that you will be able to take your place in the stands as 3,500 Roman spectators once did back in 12BC when it was first constructed.

Your fluent English speaking tour guide takes care of all train tickets and making sure you everyone gets off at the right stop. All entrance tickets are included and all of the major sites will be covered in a 2.5 hour leisurely walk through the ruins - including but not limited to Ostia's Amphitheatre, Forum of the Corporations, the Collegiate Temple, the public tavern and public baths.

Note, walking tour is 2.5 hours. The complete duration is 4 hours with train trip to and from Ancient Ostia.
